Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada Continues to Support the Troops

Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada is proud to renew its efforts to support Canadian troops by extending several support programs. Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada continues to offer a $500 Canadian Parts & Accessories/GM credit to any regular or reserve forces members with the purchase of a new, previously untitled motorcycle, and gives members of the armed forces who ride an opportunity to ride longer under warranty when they return home (number of days they were deployed added to the balance of the remaining warranty period).,

Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada is pleased to maintain the Test Our Metal Program on military bases across Canada, allowing troops to enjoy test rides on the newest models of Harley-Davidson motorcycles on specific dates, which are outlined on www.harley-canada.com.

Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada is pleased and proud to introduce a new collection of MotorClothes® apparel in Canada that highlights the historic relationship between Harley-Davidson® and serving military personnel.

Featuring men’s military-inspired graphics on key silhouettes, the Military Collection consists of a total of 15 styles across sportswear, casual outerwear and accessories apparel. This line features nostalgic graphics and styling reminiscent of H-D support during the WWII era. Several of the graphics are taken directly from the Harley-Davidson archives.

“CANEX acknowledges, with gratitude, the altruism of H.O.G. members and Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada. The support Deeley Harley-Davidson [Canada] has extended to the Canadian Forces Personnel and Family Support Services [CFPFSS] through participation in such programs as Operation Santa Claus is a demonstration of their commitment to Canadian Forces Personnel serving abroad. [Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada]’s many initiatives, such as H-D Canadian Forces Test Our Metal Events, speak volumes to Deeley EXCLUSIVE HARLEY-DAVIDSON BUELL DISTRIBUTOR
Harley-Davidson Canada’s recognition and support of the Canadian Forces community”, says Ken Stilwell, CANEX Manager of Corporate Programs.

This limited Military Collection offering will be available as of October 2010 and will be complemented by the “Gift with Purchase Program” running from November 1 to December 24 in participating authorized Harley-Davidson Retail Stores across Canada. This program rewards every qualifying $300 purchase with a free Military Archive Collection: framed images valued at $75, featuring one-of-a-kind images straight from the Harley-Davidson Museum archives. These images are framed in a custom shadow box to showcase the features and uses of the 1942 WLA motorcycle during WWII.

The Military Collection is created with the WLA motorcycles of the 1940s in mind. These motorcycles were specifically produced for military use by the U.S. and its allies during WWII. During the war, Harley-Davidson Motor Company produced approximately 90,000 WL military models, in various configurations, for use on virtually every front. The olive drab painted WLA, which came to be known as “The Liberator”, featured special wartime equipment such as an ammunitions box, a machine-gun scabbard, and front and rear blackout lights to help soldiers avoid detection. It played an important role in WWII for military police, couriers, scouts, and communication specialists who learned to ride in unpredictable conditions, over difficult terrain. This limited-edition collection honours some of those key moments in the history of Canada, as well as that of Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

Ruthless Racing - places well in latest Parts Canada race

At the Race City Motorsport Park in Calgary on the weekend of June 26, Dave Estok scored two fourth-place finishes and acquired a substantial amount of points towards his goal of winning the Canadian National Championship in the Pro Sportbike class.

Riding the Ruthless Racing Inc./Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada-sponsored Buell 1125R bike, Estok quickly became comfortable on the bike and on the Friday morning test session was ranked fourth fastest. Unfortunately, by the end of qualifying, Estok had slipped a bit on the leaderboard and was to start the race in fifth position. “We had some problems that we worked through, and all was well, and then in the qualifying session I high-sided the ‘A’ bike and had to use the ‘B’ bike and then, I’m not sure what happened, but the fairing came off, so I had to park it, but my times were good enough to give me fifth.”

Meanwhile, in the K&N Filters Sport Twins class, Olivier Spilborghs qualified his Ruthless Racing Inc. Buell XB9R bike in third place after running second fastest through the morning practice.

In Saturday’s round two action, morning practice found Estok in third behind Jordan Szoke (Honda) and Cody Matechuck (Suzuki) in the Pro Sportbike class, and Spilborghs in fourth place in the K&N Filters Sport Twin class. Both Ruthless Racing Inc. riders finished fourth in their respective races. After the race, Estok commented, “I can’t say enough about Dave Oakley. I mean, with Thomas [Morin] being in England assisting Darren James in his racing, Dave worked his butt off. He had to make one bike out of two. Dave and Rod Matechuck really made the difference this weekend, so thanks to them.” Spilborghs completed four laps before retiring with undisclosed problems.

In round three on Sunday, Estok once more found the handling and power of the Buell bike to his liking. In the morning practice, he lowered his lap times to the one-minute-twenty-second bracket, recording a 01:20.142 to rank third. In the race he went faster again, notching a 01:19.514. In spite of his best efforts, the best he could achieve was a fourth-place finish once more. “Unless you win, you always want to do better,” Estok commented post race. “I’m happy with this weekend though. These were my two best finishes, and we still have four races to go. I’m really looking forward to Mosport and I hope to put the Ruthless Racing Inc. Buell [bike] on the box there.”

With a third-place run, Olivier Spilborghs scored his second podium appearance of the year (the first being his third position at Mirabel), but his inability to finish the race on Saturday has seriously eroded his championship chances. Olivier was not available for comment after the race.

Meanwhile, on the same weekend, Ruthless Racing Inc. racer Darren James competed in the British SuperBike Series at Mallory Park in the U.K. Assisted by Thomas Morin, Darren started his race aboard the Harley-Davidson XR 1200 in 9th position in a grid of 22 bikes and finally positioned himself 7th, achieving an 8th place in the current Championship standings.

Season ending accident for Canadian dirt track sensation - Don Taylor

The dirt-track racing effort of Don Taylor came to a premature end when he crashed his JPR Suzuki bike in the AMA Pro Grand National Championship short-track race in Gas City, Indiana, on June 19. Taylor was thrown from his bike when he made contact with the rider in front of him well past the halfway mark in the race. He sustained a broken collar bone and right arm, and will be out of action for the rest of the season.
It was unbelievably tight racing,” the Canadian champ supported by Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada and Clare’s Harley-Davidson® of Niagara lamented from his hospital bed back home in Welland, Ontario. “The guy in front just slowed up a bit, and I just barely touched him and away I went. It’s really too bad. I mean, I really feel bad for Deeley and for Randy and all the staff at Clare’s. I’d already won the opening race at home [Taylor was in line for his seventh consecutive number one plate in Canada], and I really like that plate, but I guess I’ll have to stop at six and start counting over next year.”

Up to the point of the mishap, Taylor had enjoyed a progressively successful day at the high-speed, banked mid-western oval, narrowly missing a direct transfer to the final by one position, and then putting in a gritty performance to put his lightweight bike into the final by winning his semi-final. “Things kept getting better all evening,.” he confirmed. “The bike was awesome. I definitely had the horsepower to get the job done; man, what a bummer.” Don paused to collect his thoughts. “It could have been a lot worse, and I realize that, so I’m thankful and I know it’s not career-ending. I’ll be back.”

Out of the bad news of an aborted flat track racing season comes the good news that the greatest dirt-track racer this country has ever produced, Don Taylor, will be back.

Please join us in wishing Don a fast recovery and a speedy return to what he loves doing most: dirt-track racing.

Second Eastern Round of CMDRA races on Father's Day - Allen Unstoppable?

GRAND BEND, Ontario (Thursday, June 24, 2010) – Grand Bend Motorplex

With an eerie calmness, Nick Allen goes about the business of maintaining a stranglehold on the National Harley-Davidson V-Rod Destroyer Series, to the frustration of his competitors, but also to the satisfaction of his supporters at Redline Harley-Davidson.

Once again, Allen proved to be unstoppable this past weekend at the Rocky’s Harley-Davidson Father’s Day drag racing event in Grand Bend, Ontario. In fact, the western contingent ran roughshod on the eastern boys’ playground, bullying their way to the final as Nick Allen faced off against Jeff Pitre, who made the long 5,000-km journey all the way from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Saturday’s qualifiers set the stage for what would become one of the closest and most competitive events to date, as five different riders finished the day within a half second of each other. Jeff Pitre of Midnight Sun Racing, sponsored by Pido Productions and Harley’s Hardrock Saloon, and riding their V-Rod bike, finished in the top spot with an ET of 9.541 and a top speed of 138.24, a record achievement despite the thick air and hot conditions that smothered the drag strip all day. Close behind, Allen ran a credible ET of 9.554 and top speed of 133.96. Eastern champ Dave Bispo, riding for Rocky’s Harley-Davidson, posted the best top speed of the day at 139.62, but his higher ET of 9.560 relegated the London, Ontario rider to third place for Sunday’s elimination rounds. Stubbornly in fourth place was former champion, Burlington’s Pete Thomson, riding for Rocky’s Harley-Davidson, posting a top speed of 138.31 and an ET of 9.578, just ahead of western rider Shawn Rude, riding for Heritage Harley-Davidson. Also in the mix were Chris Fox of Fox Racing, who duked it out with newcomers, Motorsport Plus of Kingston’s Mitch McCallum and Thunder Road Harley-Davidson-sponsored Paul Guerrieri.

Sunday started with perfect weather – sunny skies and clear air – but the western riders, having taken command of the qualifying rounds, impersonated a storm that appeared to be present throughout the weekend.

The opening set of eliminations saw Jeff Pitre make quick work of a startled Paul Guerrieri. Next up, Pete Thomson narrowly held off the speedy Shawn Rude to move himself into contention, while, with the day’s top speed of 139.79 mph, Dave Bispo removed Chris Fox from further contention. In a close battle, young upstart Mitch McCallum on the G-Mac Electric, MacDonald Construction Harley-Davidson V-Rod bike almost chased down Nick Allen, but the cagey veteran held him off for the win by a mere 0.034-second and 2.83-mph top speed.

The second round of eliminations saw familiar foes, Rocky’s Harley-Davidson-sponsored Dave Bispo go up against the reigning champ of Redline Harley-Davidson, Nick Allen. When the tree timed down, Bispo was off with Allen hot on his tail. The two adversaries settled the bet, with Allen getting his best time of the weekend and breaking the beam first with a top speed of 139.38 mph, while Bispo limped home with a disappointing top speed of 131.79, relegating the eastern champ to spectator status. Next up, Jeff Pitre finished strong in the closest run of the weekend, barely ahead of a hard-charging Pete Thomson, beating the Burlington, Ontario rider by a marginal ET of 0.49 and speed differential of only 0.006 mph. With the eastern contingent now out of competition, the final battle would become an all-western shootout with Canadian champion Nick Allen facing off against Jeff Pitre, who was determined to make the best of his opportunity. With the sun setting on the Grand Bend drag strip, the two riders lined up for one last run for all the marbles, while the eastern riders were lamenting the fact that these two kids were playing in their sandbox. When the light flashed green, the two riders looked tethered as they ran the one-quarter, and it was not until the white light flashed over Allen’s scoreboard that the winner could be decided. For his efforts, Pitre was rewarded with a strong runner-up finish, while Allen again proved his mettle in winning the event with a strong ET of 9.474 and a top speed of 137.78 proving once again that it is going to take a lot of work to de-throne the reigning Canadian champ.

The Rocky’s Harley-Davidson V-Rod Destroyer action will resume on July 10 to 11 in the western series at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, and in the east at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario.

Equipped with fully adjustable Showa front and rear suspension components, the 2011 XR 1200X motorcycle can be dialled in to match rider weight, riding style, and road conditions. The XR 1200X model combines this premium suspension with enhanced front brakes and the responsive punch of a high-compression, a 1,200 cc Evolution V-Twin engine, all in a dynamic, street-performance motorcycle.

With a tank and tail section designed to evoke the legendary Harley-Davidson XR 750 bike – the king of the gritty American flat-track scene – the XR 1200X model puts its mechanical character on display. Wide flat-track bars and rear-set foot pegs position an assertive rider for active control. The XR 1200X bike has a blacked-out powertrain and exhaust, revised tank graphics, and black wheels with an orange rim pinstripe. The XR 1200X motorcycle will be offered in two colours: Black Denim and White Hot Denim.

Key XR 1200X Features

A Showa big piston front fork (BPF) eliminates many of the internal components used in a cartridge-type fork, resulting in a lighter overall fork weight. The large diameter of the BPF internal piston allows a reduction in damping pressure for outstanding feedback and smooth action. Rebound and compression damping may be fine-tuned with adjuster screws located on top of the fork bolts. The spring pre-load is adjusted with a M5 hex screw on the axle holders.

Showa rear shocks feature 36 mm pistons with piggy-back nitrogen-charged reservoirs. The compression damping may be adjusted with a knob on top of the reservoir. Rebound is adjusted with a thumb wheel on the lower clevis. The rear spring pre-load is also adjustable.

- The Nissin dual front brakes feature 292 mm, full-floating rotors and four-piston calipers.
- The isolation-mounted Evolution 1,200 cc V-Twin engine with a black, powder-coated finish features a downdraft Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), high-performance camshafts, precision oil-cooled cylinder heads, and a large capacity oil cooler. The compression ratio is 10:1. The engine is rated at 74 ft-lb peak torque at 4,000 RPM (per SAE J1349).
- An upswept, high-volume, 2-1-2 straight-shot exhaust system with satin black finish offers extra cornering clearance.
- The chassis features a tubular mild steel frame designed for high performance. The rigid, cast-aluminum swingarm is engineered to enhance handling.
- The Dunlop Qualifier D209 tires were designed specifically for the XR 1200XTM motorcycle.
- The three-spoke, lightweight, cast-aluminum wheels (18-inch front/17-inch rear) are finished in gloss black with an orange pinstripe on the rim.
- A wide, black, dirt-track handlebar for enhanced steering leverage and comfort.
- Rear-set foot pegs for additional cornering clearance.
- A compact instrument display with a white-faced analogue tachometer, a digital speedometer, a dual trip meter, and a clock.
- A 3.5-gallon fuel tank with aircraft-style aluminum alloy fuel filler.

Available LED colour options are red, blue, purple, or amber, which match with the corresponding Electra Glo Light Pods. The inserts fit 1986-later Harley-Davidson Touring models with “D-shaped” footboards, and are easy to install with wiring that plugs into the Factory harness.

The kit includes a front and rear lever, and chrome hardware, and fits 1986 and later FL Softail and 1988 and later Touring models.

The Edge Cut Shift Levers complement the machined stems of the Edge Cut Mirrors (part number 92441-10) and slotted Edge Cut Hand Control Lever Kit (part number 55798-10). The Edge Cut Collection also includes hand grips, foot and shifter pegs, brake pedal pads, footboard inserts, and a billet-style shifter and rear brake lever, to fit many Dyna, Softail, VRSC, Sportster and Touring models. See an authorized Harley-Davidson Retailer for fitment details.

NEW CONTRAST CHROME ROULETTE WHEELS FROM HARLEY-DAVIDSON
The Dazzle of Brilliant Chrome Against Durable Gloss Black Powdercoat

The new Roulette Custom Wheel – Contrast Chrome (part number 55065-10, 17-inch front, part number 55064-10, 16-inch rear) from Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories features eleven slim spokes highlighted in brilliant chrome that blend with the gloss black rim. The spoke shape stands proud on the rim’s edge, mimicking the pockets on a roulette wheel. The surface catches and reflects light, just as the raised ridges deflect the spinning roulette ball. These wheels have undergone hundreds of hours of real-world testing to meet the highest standards of performance and durability. The wheel fits 2009 and later Touring models (except Trike) and requires separate purchase of model-specific Wheel Installation Kits. See an authorized Harley-Davidson Retailer for fitment details.

DYNA BOBBER WITH NEW KIT FROM HARLEY-DAVIDSON
Solo Spring Saddle for Classic Style

Owners of most 2006 and later Harley-Davidson Dyna models can achieve the Hot Bobber look with the installation of the new Solo Spring Saddle – Black Leather (part number 54373-10), a 10.5-inch wide solo seat with the minimalistic “just enough to ride” look. The torsion-style springs are designed for the optimal balance between spring suspension and support. The smooth metal seat pan and the simple frame cover leave a clean, finished appearance. The seat can be removed and replaced with a Touring seat for two-up riding.

Installation requires separate purchase of a Spring Seat Mounting Hardware Kit (part number 54075-10).

This kit does not fit all Dyna models. See an authorized Harley-Davidson Retailer for complete fitment details.

New Virtual Riding TV video has been posted

Our friend Jeff (Founder/Executive Producer) over at Virtual Riding TV has posted a new high definition video of a sunset motorcycle ride on the Sea to Sky Highway between Porteau Cove and Lions Bay, British Columbia, Canada.

For those unacquainted with this area, Highway 99 is one of the most scenic roads in BC, especially from Vancouver to Whistler.  Portions of this stretch of road were redone for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, and now the Sea to Sky corridor is a motorcyclist's dream filled with spectacular scenery. Don't take our word for it though. Check out the video below.

The video is appearing in several spots on the web, including YouTube, Daily Motion, and the tourism British Columbia website.  You can check out this new video below but make sure you visit the VRIDETV website to see all their great (and free!) video's.

Bombardier made an offer on Buell - Harley declined

According to Motojournalist Alan Cathcart - Canadian manufacturer BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) had made two offers to take the Buell line from Harley-Davidson. Both of them were declined by Harley.

The liquid cooled v-twin that is used in 1125cc based Buell bikes is make by Rotax - a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bombardier group and BRP was interested preserving the existence of an important customer... ie: Buell.

It's said that BRP initially made an offer to acquire the engine, manufacturing rights, and production tooling.  When that was reportedly rejected it's said that BRP made an offer on the Buell brand itself.

How interesting indeed!  Erik Buell has reportedly signed a 15 month non-compete clause so watch out for the day that ends.  Still - the 1125cc based Rotax engine will be off limits as it's still owned by Harley.

BRP would have perhaps been able to use the 1125cc engine in their Spyder bike which now use a 990 cc Rotax engine.  Maybe they would have been able to build a successful business out of the Buell brand too?

Harley-Davidson Revs Up with a Chic, Women-Only Garage Party Event for Rethink Breast Cancer

CONCORD, Ontario (March 9, 2010) ─ Women who want to support a great cause and rock their glam will gather at the second annual Precious Metal Gala to raise funds for Rethink Breast Cancer.

Combining entertainment with an innovative and interactive way to learn about motorcycling, the Canadian Harley-Davidson hosted event will take place at the Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District on Tuesday, May 11, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

The Precious Metal Gala marks the closing of a series of successful Garage Party events hosted by over 60 authorized Canadian Harley-Davidson Retailers across Canada, designed to provide women with the confidence to get into the sport of motorcycling. Recent numbers show that 13.4 per cent of Harley-Davidson sales have been to women, supporting the idea that they are as adventurous and adrenaline-seeking as their male counterparts.

The ultimate “girls’ night out” will see an all-female guest list walk the pink carpet, including CEOs, tastemakers, and talent. Karen Davidson, the fashion icon and great-granddaughter of the Company’s co-founder William A. Davidson, will be in attendance at the event. Billie Holiday, morning host at Virgin Radio, will emcee the event and welcome ladies as they enter the stylishly themed venue.

This decadent Biker Chic-themed party will include hair and makeup stations to prepare babes for an action- style biker photo shoot on a new 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a chance to browse the Precious Closet featuring the new Harley-Davidson Pink Label collection, the opportunity to learn about how to get your motorcycle licence, and the very popular motorcycle lift, where women learn the technique of effortlessly picking up a bike from the ground. All of this, plus a silent auction, tasty hors d’œuvres, and drinks, will help in achieving the Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada goal of raising $15,000 for Rethink Breast Cancer.

“Our inspiration for this campaign is to show women they can do anything they set their minds to. Riding a Harley motorcycle is an exhilarating activity that makes women feel strong, confident, and excited,” said Don James, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada.

“Through the Precious Metal Gala, we are supporting our mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends who are fighting breast cancer, as well as introducing women to motorcycling – it’s the perfect combination, as each involves people with great strength and spirit.”

“At Rethink, we always work to disseminate information about breast cancer in interesting and compelling ways. Partnering with Harley-Davidson in Canada was a perfect fit for us and allows us to reach and inform a group of curious and adventurous women,” said M.J. DeCoteau, Executive Director of Rethink Breast Cancer.

Women across Canada can now enter to win two VIP tickets to the Precious Metal Gala, a biker-style makeover including a shopping spree at a Harley-Davidson Retail Store, a one-on-one image consultation including full hair and makeup from Your Shop Girl, and a complementary beginner’s rider training course. For more details, go to www.garageparty.ca.

Tickets to the Precious Metal Gala will be available for purchase by the public for $75 beginning Monday, March 15, at www.garageparty.ca.

US daredevil sets Harely Davidson jump record

Freestyle motocrosser Seth Enslow attempted to make history and break the existing record of 157 feet for a successful long distance jump aboard a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The world record was first benchmarked by Evel Knievel in 1975 and recently set by Bubba Blackwell in 1999.

Enslow attempted the jump aboard a modified Harley-Davidson XR1200 motorcycle in Sydney, Australia, on Monday, March 1 at 3:30 pm CST. The jump was broadcast live from Australia across the globe via http://www.harleyworldrecordjump.com, and after the event the video will be available on the Harley-Davidson YouTube channel.

“To many, Evel Knievel was the original extreme athlete – long before there were extreme sports,” said Mark-Hans Richer, Harley-Davidson Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “This latest generation of riders still revere Knievel – even as they attempt to smash his records.”

Drawing inspiration from the Harley-Davidson XR-750 racing motorcycle that Knievel helped make legendary, the new Harley-Davidson XR1200 motorcycle is helping ignite a spirit of rebellion in a new generation and is giving them the opportunity to push Harley riding to its limits once again.

“A new generation of counterculture riders are embracing Harley-Davidson motorcycles, just like the
generation before them,” said Richer. “The XR1200 and our new Dark Custom motorcycles, like the nearly sold out Iron 883 [bike] launched a year ago and the new Forty-Eight [bike] introduced last month, have given them an authentic way to express themselves. In fact, we now sell more bikes to this generation of young riders than to the young adult generation before them.”

Richer added, “It’s cool to see it happening out in the streets. Even cooler to see one flying more than 150 feet

Harley Davidson- Bringing new clothing line to Canada

CONCORD, Ontario (January 29, 2010) – In the spirit of the Harley-Davidson motorcycling culture that motivates thousands of Harley owners across Canada to actively support a number of charitable causes, Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada, the exclusive Canadian distributor of Harley-Davidson products, is partnering with Rethink Breast Cancer to offer a new clothing line to assist those women affected by breast cancer.

Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada believes in empowering women. Rethink Breast Cancer shares this belief and is dedicated to providing innovative education, research, and support programs. By sharing the Harley-Davidson spirit and purchasing items from the Canadian Pink Label Collection, people across Canada can help breast cancer-affected women, with 10% of the proceeds from the sale of Pink Label items being donated to Rethink Breast Cancer.

Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada is proud of this new alliance, as it is part of a broader initiative with women as its focal point. It is another step in assisting women throughout Canada in their efforts to embrace the incredibly rewarding experience of cruising the open roads and living the dream.

Tagged with the motto “Purchase with a Purpose”, the Canadian Pink Label Collection is comprised of 12 of the most popular women’s MotorClothes silhouettes – each featuring a tasteful touch of pink – including jackets, pants, eyewear, gloves, helmets, shirts, and more. The following are some of the highlights of the collection:

Pink Label Performance Eyewear (P/N 98383-10VW): Your perfect riding eyewear is now in sight. Pink Label Full-Finger Gloves (P/N 98372-10VW) Technically advanced to help you meet every riding situation, Pink Label gloves are made with genuine leather, include a tricot lining, and have an ergonomically designed thumb. Pre-curved fingers and padded palms provide comfort on every ride.

Harley Davidson gives CVO treatment to 2010 Ultra Classic Electra Glide

(January 24, 2010) – The new 2010 Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) Ultra Classic Electra Glide motorcycle trades the shine of chrome for a fade to black in its debut as the new, darker version of this truly exceptional Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycle.

Each motorcycle is serialized from one to 999, and displays a formidable array of blacked-out components, led by the serialized CB pod insert, the gloss black Rumble collection and the low-smoked windshield. The new CVO Ultra Classic motorcycle adds leading-edge technology with a handlebar-mounted Road Tech zūmo 660 GPS Navigator and an integrated automatic lock system that now includes the ignition knob.

The CVO Ultra Classic motorcycle is powered by a black and chrome Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine and a six-speed Cruise Drive transmission, which is the largest-displacement V-Twin engine offered from the Factory by Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

Besides the black powertrain, this menacing touring bike revels in all things dark with a Crimson Mist Black/Dark Slate and flame graphics base colour, and approximately 185 other unique black parts, components and accessories meticulously melded to form and function by the CVO team.

Among the main attractions on the dark road to CVO Ultra custom inspiration are the contrast chrome roulette wheels, Rumble Collection featuring nine gloss black accessories from mirrors to saddlebag latch covers, black engine and saddlebag guards, and diamond black gauge faces. All of these deeply dark features combine to make the Ultra Classic bike into an inspired motorcycle that could only come from the Harley-Davidson CVO team.

The CVO Ultra Classic motorcycle presents a lower profile up front with a 6.5-inch smoked windshield and adds premium Touring features like an anti-lock braking system (ABS), LED saddlebag lights, Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), a six-gallon fuel tank, Brembo brakes and a 160-watt CD/AM/FM/WB/ MP3 Advanced Audio System by Harman-Kardon, CB and intercom, and passenger audio with controls, cruise control, plus standard XM Radio.

The CVO Ultra Classic motorcycle is built on the innovative Touring chassis introduced by Harley-Davidson in 2009, based on a single-spar, rigid backbone frame and swingarm, specifically developed to suit the needs of long-haul touring rides. Key CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide Motorcycle Features - Screamin’ Eagle black and chrome Twin Cam 110 engine with 110 cid (1,803 cc), rubber-mounted to the frame, is rated at 115 ft. lbs. of torque at 3,750 rpm. The six-speed Cruise Drive transmission with black and chrome case features a helical-cut fifth gear.

- Developed for Harley-Davidson by Garmin, the Road Tech zūmo 660 has a new mounting position for convenient viewing by both rider and passenger with a glove-friendly touch screen, left-handed controls and a bright, UV-resistant display that is easy to read in sunlight.
- Gloss black Rumble Collection featuring rider footboard inserts and pans, passenger footboard inserts and pans, shifter pegs, brake pedal, highway pegs, mirrors, windshield trim, saddlebag latch covers and heated hand grips with end caps.
- Contrast chrome roulette wheels, 17-inch front and 16-inch rear
- Suspended, dual-control heated leather seat with new perforated printed insert
- Leather passenger backrest with adjustable lumbar support and new perforated, leather insert.
- New custom paint scheme is Crimson Mist Black/Dark Slate with flame graphics.

Production of the 2010 CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide motorcycle will be limited to approximately 999 units. This model has a suggested Canadian Retail price of $43,359.

Harley announces new 48

The new Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight motorcycle is a Factory custom bike in the legendary tradition of the hot rod Sportster line with the raw, elemental appeal of the Dark Custom bikes.

Riding low with a slammed suspension and featuring the classic 2.1-gallon “peanut” fuel tank, the Forty-Eight model backs up its “bulldog” appearance with the performance of its blacked-out and polished rubber-mounted Evolution 1200 cc V-Twin engine. The low solo seat, under-mounted mirrors, side-mount licence late, clean rear fender, and tall and fat front tire emphasize the Forty-Eight motorcycle’s focus on chiselled customization.

With radical attitude and straight-on style, the Forty-Eight model will not break the bank, starting at just $12,479 Canadian MSRP in Vivid Black.

“With its classic ‘bulldog shoulders’ stance, the Forty-EightT [model] strikes a distinctive look and low profile that could only come from Harley-Davidson [Motor Company],” said Ray Drea, Senior Director of Styling at Harley-Davidson. “The Forty-Eight model has a collective past-life experience and broken-in look that is raw and authentic.”

As a Harley-Davidson Dark Custom motorcycle, the Forty-Eight bike is ready to ride as a radical custom and is also primed to take on its rider’s character and personality. Dark Custom accomplices of the Forty-Eight bike include the Nightster, Iron 883, Cross Bones, Fat Bob, and Street Bob models. Check out more on Dark Custom motorcycles at www.harleycanada.com.

Harley-Davidson Sportster models like the Forty-Eight bike have retained an aura of rebellion since their introduction in 1957, when the foundation of custom culture was laid by hot rod gearheads hanging out on city street corners, in gritty garages, or at dusty drag strips. Sportster motorcycles became an iron canvas for many legendary choppers of that hot rod era and beyond.

Lying low from tire-to-tire, the Forty-Eight model showcases more of its black 1200 Evolution radical attitude and straight-on style V-Twin engine with polished accents and other components with a clean look, highlighted by the traditional “peanut” fuel tank, small solo seat, and lightening holes in the backbone mounting bracket.

With a smooth ride on new front fork sliders, a tall and fat front tire and slammed rear suspension, the Forty-Eight bike has more than just custom cool styling.

With Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) and performance tuning with a broad torque curve, the Forty-Eight motorcycle delivers a powerfully responsive ride with smooth clutch effort. The pipes on the chrome shorty dual exhaust pound out the distinctive Harley-Davidson American V-Twin sound.

The Forty-Eight model embraces the street up front with forward foot controls, a low-profile custom handlebar, under-mounted mirrors, fork-mounted turn signals, a slammed speedometer mounting bracket, and a fork brace with lightening holes. A unique dual texture solo seat with a height of 26 inches fits the lone rider, while a passenger pillion, footpegs, and a backrest are some of the many accessories that can be added.

The black chopped rear fender with combination stop/turn/tail lights and a side-mounted licence plate help to show off the 150 mm rear tire and 16-inch Black Steel Laced wheels. The front tire also rides on a wide black wheel.

NOTE: The Canadian model actually deviates from what's written here slightly - It has a centre mounted licence plate and a centre mounted tail light.

The Forty-Eight model comes in Vivid Black, Brilliant Silver, and Mirage Orange Pearl colours, and with a Canadian suggested Retail price of $12,479 for black and $12,819 for pearl colours, it will be available soon at Harley-Davidson Retail locations across Canada.

Forty-Eight Features and Highlights:

- Blacked-out rubber-mounted Evolution 1200 cc V-Twin engine with polished covers

- Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI)

- Steel 2.1-gallon peanut fuel tank with lightening hole mounting bracket

Don Taylor Gears Up for Another Successful Season on a Harley-Davidson XR 750 Motorcycle

Six-time Canadian Motorcycle Association National Dirt Track Champion and number one plate holder Donald Taylor has recently confirmed that he will once more ride for Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada.

Taylor actually broke the news at the December Toronto Motorcycle Show in a live interview on the stage of Full Throttle Theatre. “I couldn’t be happier,” the young champion enthused. “I just came from the Harley-Davidson display, and it looks like I’m going to be riding the XR 750 for them again. We have to discuss details, but I’d say it looks pretty good.”

Taylor, who recently relocated to his new home in Port Colbourne, Ontario, commented jokingly, “I guess you could say I’m still happy. […] Riding for Deeley has become more important to me over the years. I’ve gotten to know the people there and they are very good to me, and I’m trying my best for them, and [for] all my sponsors really. I won every race but one in Canada on the XR 750, and I finished second in the other race after a real bad start. I had a lot of help from George Evans and Steve Beattie. George made sure the XR 750 stayed
bulletproof, and Steve is so good with suspension. Every time I rode the XR, I felt more comfortable on it.”

Reminded of his season-ending runaway win in the CMA Short Track Shootout, Taylor commented, “That’s a perfect example. Everyone thought the Harley® [bike] was going to be too much to handle on the short track, but I thought it was great. I’ve honestly never felt so comfortable on the XR. It was a great way to end the season.”

Taylor plans to continue his record run of Canadian dirt track crowns in 2010 with his continued partnership with Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada, as well as with the valued support of Clare’s Harley-Davidson of Niagara, Scorpion Helmets, Nexo Sports, Performance Under Gear, Twenty Six Suspension, CP Pistons, and Vortex Racing.

In acknowledgement of its racing heritage, Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada is pleased to renew its efforts in support of the national sport of dirt track racing in Canada. We are incredibly proud to be able to back such a promising and inspiring young racer and we look forward to many successful races this season on his XR 750 in Canada as well as south of the border.

Custom "Support Our Troops" themed motorcycle to be at Toronto Motorcycle Show

Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada and the Canadian Forces Personnel and Family Support Services (CFPFSS), through its CANEX retail operations, have combined efforts, and as a result, a unique “Support Our Troops”-themed Harley-Davidson® Road King® motorcycle was created.

This iconic and unique custom-painted motorcycle embodies the passion, altruism, and pride of three organisations that have dedicated their efforts towards supporting the CFPFSS-administered Military Families Fund in its mission to assist Canadian Forces members and their families with special needs that they may have due to conditions of service.

Custom-painted by Extreme Measures and adorned with various important Support Our Troops symbols, the “Harley for Heroes”-themed Harley-Davidson® Road King® motorcycle will be on display at the MMIC Toronto Motorcycle Show from December 11 to 13 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Sponsored by Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada, the evening of Saturday, December 12 will officially be presented as the Support Our Troops Night. Admission will be free after 5 p.m. for all military personnel members with proper credentials. Visitors will be able to purchase tickets for the “Harley for Heroes” raffle at a price of $25 a ticket for a chance to win the “Support Our Troops”-themed Harley-Davidson® Road King® motorcycle, which will be on display. On top of that, there is the chance to win a $500 Harley-Davidson® gift card, redeemable at participating authorized Canadian Harley-Davidson® Retail Stores. Starting December 14, the purchase of raffle tickets will also be possible at CANEX outlets in Ontario and at select Harley-Davidson® Retail Stores.

Made available through Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada, this unique and stunning motorcycle is a one-of-a-kind rolling icon in support of our troops. A cream, red, and black design, highlighted throughout by subtle maple leaves, serves as a backdrop for various important Support Our Troops symbols, such as the crest of the Canadian Forces on the front fender and a life-like red poppy image and the words “Lest we forget” on the rear. The saddlebags pay tribute to the Highway of Heroes and feature the Canadian Support Our Troops yellow ribbon image.

The bike was first unveiled at the Canadian National H.O.G.® Rally in Calgary on August 14. “I was extremely proud to have the opportunity to show a little corporate citizenship and represent the generosity and the altruism of our Harley Owners Group® members throughout the country by supporting such an important cause,” commented Don James, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada.

In addition to the donation of this unique commemorative motorcycle to the Military Families Fund, Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada further supports the troops by offering a $500 Canadian Parts & Accessories/GM credit to any regular or reserve Canadian Forces members with the purchase of a new, previously untitled motorcycle. Deeley is also giving those members of the armed forces who ride an opportunity to ride longer under warranty when they return home. The extended warranty will cover the number of days they were deployed to account for the balance of the remaining warranty period.

“CANEX has a long and proud association with Deeley Harley Davidson® Canada, but the donation of this bike marks a new milestone accomplishment in support of our troops. This beautiful motorcycle will help do much good within the military community through the Military Families Fund,” said Gerry Mahon, President of CANEX.

Latest Ad campaign from HD is good... very good!

It's a Military Appreciation themed Ad campaign and plays up the companies history of use in the military. They've designated the Month - Military Appreciation Month. It pays homage to active and retired US military personnel.

They've also selected Marisa Miller to pose for classic military style pin-up shots.

Marisa said that she was delighted to support "those who keep us riding free." Her grandfather was a veteran. She had the unique opportunity to meet several service men and women during recent USO tour. The military holds a special place in her heart.

Marisa Miller hopes that other Americans will join her and Harley-Davidson in saluting these real life heroes during the month of November. Harley-Davidson has also announced a competition for the armed forces personnel, which will give them a chance to win a bike personally delivered by Miller.

Check out a clip that Harley Davidson has uploaded to YouTube. Plenty of shots of Harley Davidsons - and Marisa Miller... If you think that's interesting.

Buell ceasing to make motorcyles

Just in case you missed the shocking news announced by Harley Davidson on Thursday, Buell is ceasing to make motorcycles. Warranties will be honored by HD but that's the end of Buell as we know it. There's limited stock on hand so if you want one better get out there.

Harley has been faced with really tough economic times with a third-quarter profit slide of 84 percent on lower motorcycle shipments and recession-related difficulties in getting loans for its customers. It means that about 100 salaried workers and 80 hourly positions will be eliminated. Most of the cuts will come by Dec. 18th.

The latest cuts come on top of 2,400 to 2,500 jobs cuts announced earlier this year. As part of the announcement, Harley also indicated they're putting their recently acquired company MV Agusta up for sale.

If MV Agusta is up for sale then why not Buell? Perhaps they want to keep all the technologies Buell developed over the years. Time will tell. A couple items in the FAQ seem to indicate that HD don't plan to rebadge any Buell's as Harley's but that they will benefit from Buell knowledge going forward and it’s possible that some of this technology will find its way into a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The news is presented by Erik Buell himself in video on Buell's website HERE.

Erik delivers the message in what he says is an emotional time. No doubt, it's been 26 years of struggling for Buell but he proved that a small company could compete and introduce motorcycle innovation that's seen on many motorcycles today.

I for one sure hope that this isn't the end of Buell and that somehow it'll emerge from this at the other end. The new 1125 motor is a fantastic engine and the 1125 based machines are Buell's I've recently had the opportunity to ride. They're fantastic machines that just feel a bit different.

Deeley Harley Davidson - a great place to work!

Some interesting news about Deeley Harley Davidson. Apparently it's a great place to work. The committee might have gotten a little ahead of themselves though - the award was for the top 100 Canadian employers for 2010.

Hmmm, unless my calendar is WAY off, it's not 2010 yet folks. All the same; it does sound like they've got some great benefits. Not to mention you get to work around motorcycles all day so it's gotta be pretty good right!

Deeley Harley-Davidson has been named one of Canada's top 100 companies.

Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada is the exclusive Canadian distributor of Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles, parts, accessories and apparel has been named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2010.

It's the first time they've been selected as one of the top 100 employers in Canada and they're proud of this new achievement.

The 2010 selection committee gave the following overview of why the company was chosen:

It supports ongoing education with tuition subsidies for courses at outside institutions, with no annual maximum; encourages employees to volunteer in the community by providing paid time-off for volunteer activities and also helps employees save for retirement through an RSP plan with matching employer contributions (from 5% to 9% of salary). Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada is an industry leader, the committee claims, providing parental leave top payments (to 75% for 52 weeks) for new mothers, and depending on their position, it gives all employees three to four weeks paid vacation after only two years on the job. Finally, the company helps employees obtain their motorcycle license, lets employees borrow demo bikes and even provides discounts on new motorcycles.

Deeley's office and distribution warehouse facilities are centered in Richmond, British Columbia, and Concord, Ontario.

Taylor triumphs once more - Icing on the Cake

Donald Taylor, sponsored by Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada and Clare’s Harley-Davidson® of Niagara, capped off a brilliant 2009 Canadian Motorcycle Association Dirt Track National Championship season with a powerful performance under the lights last Saturday night. In what was a surprise to many riders, the evening’s races were given championship point status and Taylor simply added to his unassailable points lead with his ride.

With his Harley-Davidson® XR 750 bike carefully massaged for short track competition by George Evans, Taylor dominated for all but one short and exciting segment. Our champion explains, “I kind of goofed on the start of my heat race. I think I spun it up a bit much coming off the line, and Jon Cornwell (XR 750) and Joey Hartrich (XR 750) beat me into turn one. I knew it was going to be hard to pass on the short track, and I knew I had to make my way past as quick as possible, so I drove it up on the cushion and just motored past them on the exit of turn two”. Taylor makes it sound easy, but the fact of the matter is, it was a daring move that illustrated his bravery, skill, and will to win.

Taylor’s thrilling manoeuvre had everyone in the packed grandstands on their feet roaring with approval. They could even be heard above the sounds of seven XR 750 motorcycles roaring down the back straight. “The fans were unreal,” confirmed the champ. “The place was packed and they stayed for the whole evening. Even the pits were clogged up with fans after the races. It was really cool. They gave us a standing ovation on the cool-down lap after the final.”

There was good reason for their enthusiasm. Many of those in attendance were regulars at the Welland County Motorcycle Club who promoted Saturday night races, and many had watched the hometown hero Taylor since he began racing at the club in the Youth 85cc class. They took partisan pride in their hero.

That same crowd cheered boisterously once more in the National Championship Expert final, but this time, Taylor needed no heroics. “I guess I just checked out on them,” he explained simply. “I got the holeshot, took the lead, and rode my own race. I don’t think I ever had so much fun on my XR. George did a great job for me again. It was so smooth and just pulled like crazy coming out of the turns. We usually don’t ride XR [bikes] on the short track, and I thought it was going to be a real handful, but like I said it was fun, and yeah, the crowd was unreal. A lot of them know me, so it was really cool to win my last race in Canada for this year for them.”

Donald Taylor will be back in action in the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championships in Pomona, California, on October 24 in the final round of that series. His goal, of course, is to win and to move into the top ten in the 2009 AMA Pro standings. This year in Canada, he captured his record-breaking sixth CMA National Dirt Track Championship title.

Cristine Sommer Simmons interviewed on RIDE!

Adrian Blake over at RIDE! is going to be interviewing three-time motorcycle hall of fame inductee Cristine Sommer Simmons, live from the 2009 AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference in Keystone, Colorado.

Cris will talk about the history of women and motorcycling and her new photography book The American Motorcycle Girls: 1900-1950. Tune in on August 19 at 5pm ET.

Check out the podcast HERE .

According to the Amazon description of Summers' book:

Chris Sommer Simmons, something of an American motorcycle pioneer herself, has been collecting photographs of women motorcyclists for nearly thirty years. A long time rider, often on a Harley-Davidson, she has scoured photo collections across the country and then spend hundreds of hours researching the contents of the photographs she has found. This book is the best of her veritable treasure trove. 'Charming' is the best word to describe each and every shot. Equally, one might say 'informative' or even 'evocative' but in truth this is a hugely significant work that seeks to charm and inject the reader with nostalgia for a surely bygone era.

Dave Grohl likes his Harley's

There's a pretty decent video on YouTube from musician/singer/drummer front-man of Foo-Fighters Dave Grohl on YouTube. It's called "Everything Sonic" and Grohl talks about his love of Harley's. His wife - not particularly, not until he got a Steet Glide Trike.

Here's the description from YouTube:

Everything Sonic featuring Dave Grohl
A film by Danny Clinch

Family man, father, Foo Fighter front man, Dave Grohl is taking time off from the road this summer to focus on a newborn, recording new songs to be included on the forthcoming Foo Fighters Greatest Hits & probably a few other things. Doesn't sound like much of a break and yet he still finds the road in the form of two, or as you'll see, three wheels. Dave recently took an afternoon to talk about his riding history and its influence on his life & music.

Check out the above video and the rhythm Dave catches from the sound of his Road King® engine.

If you're easily offended by swearing - better not watch this one.

10 seater Harley-Davidson to appear at Sturgis Rally

Steve "Doc" Hopkins has a Harley like none other. It's 24 feet long, seats 10 people and has 7 engines, some of them antiques dating back 100 years.

"It's like a rolling history of Harley Davidson's engines -- since 1909 to present," Hopkins said. "In 1909, Harley Davidson came out with the first v-twin. And that's what this bike reflects, is the first v-twin on up to through brand new twin cam."

Hopkins and nine passengers apparently started a 900-mile ride to Sturgis on Saturday. Hope there's not too many tight corners or right hand turns.

Taylor Dominates Leamington Half-Mile

On an overcast day with the Leamington Fairgrounds half mile track in excellent condition, Deeley Harley-Davidson/ Clare's Harley-Davidson of Niagara sponsored Donald Taylor totally dominated the first long track event on the Canadian Motorcycle Association 2009 flat track schedule.

The packed grandstand erupted in a boisterous cheer as Taylor took the lead through turns three and four on lap one of the fifteen lap National Championship final. “I had a kind of rough start,” the five time National Champion explained. “Both Jon Cornwell and John Parker beat me off the line but I ran them down on the back straight and passed them both in three and four. I knew once I got by them I’d be gone. The Harley-Davidson XR750 was running so strong and we had the set up perfect. I honestly don’t remember being so comfortable and confident in a race, I didn’t even raise a sweat.”

By the time the half way flags were shown Taylor was already beginning to lap slower riders and his torrid race pace had him lapping over half of the eighteen rider field. Those same lapped riders also caused some problems for the speedy champ. “In the final four laps I was passing a lot of guys and they were all over the place using different lines that always seemed to conflict with mine. I had a really close call with a straw bale right on the track and I don’t know how I didn’t crash.”

Post race Taylor was jubilant stating, “That was a blast, this thing (his HD XR750) is an absolute rocket, it worked so well and just went where I wanted it to, it was perfect. This was a perfect tune up for Hagerstown, Maryland next weekend. I feel pretty confident I can do well down there and qualify for the show again.”

This performance in Leamington has put Don in a good stead towards what he hopes will be his sixth consecutive Canadian Dirt Track Championship and accompanying number one plate. His existing score of five plates in a row has already established a Canadian record firmly confirming his status of the best dirt track racer this country has ever produced.

Harley-Davidson rolls out nine new models for 2010

More Performance, Features and Value Across Six Motorcycle Platforms

MILWAUKEE (July 25, 2009) - Harley-Davidson roars into 2010 with nine new motorcycle models, the most expansive new-product introduction in the history of the Motor Company. Across six model platforms, Harley-Davidson achieves a fusion of tradition and technology in a motorcycle product line that offers more power, luxury, and style, and more value.

"This ambitious new motorcycle launch reaches to our riders with the incredible passion that Harley-Davidson has inspired for more than a century," said Bill Davidson, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Core Customer Marketing. "We are thrilled to offer our customers nine new models and a full selection of products for 2010 that lets their enthusiasm for enjoying great motorcycles continue at full throttle."

Highlights of the 2010 Harley-Davidson® line include:

As the new king of the Harley-Davidson Touring line, the Electra Glide® Ultra Limited model delivers the performance upgrade of a Twin Cam 103™ engine, and features standard equipment items previously offered only as accessories on regular-production Harley-Davidson Touring models.

The new Road Glide® Custom model looks lean and mean, with a slammed suspension, 18-inch front wheel and a new 2-into-1 exhaust system.

The Wide Glide® returns as an all-new Dyna® model done in old-school chopper style, with black laced wheels, a chopped rear fender, black "wire" sissy bar, 2-1-2 Tommy Gun exhaust and an optional flame paint scheme. Priced starting at $14,499, the Wide Glide is also a great new value.

The new Street Glide® Trike brings stripped-down, hot-rod styling to the three-wheel category, and joins the Tri Glide™ Ultra Classic® in an all new Trike family for 2010.

Dressed in satin chrome and denim black, the new Fat Boy® Lo presents a darker and lower interpretation of the motorcycle that still defines the fat-custom segment.

The 2010 Street Glide® model gets even more hot-rod soul, with updates that include a larger front wheel, slimmed-down exhaust, and a new tail light assembly. Street Glide takes a classic Harley-Davidson Touring profile to a low, light and lean extreme.

No motorcycle on the road today matches the modern street attitude of the three exciting models in the Harley-Davidson VRSC™ family: V-Rod®, Night Rod® Special and V-Rod Muscle®. The explosive performance of the liquid cooled Revolution® V-Twin engine keeps VRSC at the top of the power cruiser food chain in 2010.

The American motorcycle legend that is Harley-Davidson Sportster® features six models for 2010, including the $7,999 Iron 883™ introduced mid-year 2009 and four others priced less than $10,000.

Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations™ (CVO™), masters of shimmering chrome and bold paint, offers four new limited-production models for 2010. The CVO Softail® Convertible is a versatile urban touring motorcycle, while the CVO Street Glide is a high-performance hot-rod bagger. The CVO Ultra Classic® Electra Glide® and CVO Fat Bob® models are refreshed for 2010 with new paint schemes and styling details. All CVO models are powered by a Twin Cam 110™ engine, the largest displacement V-Twin offered by Harley-Davidson.

Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the only major U.S.-based motorcycle manufacturer, produces heavyweight motorcycles and a complete line of motorcycle parts, accessories and general merchandise. For more information, visit Harley-Davidson's Web site at www.harley-davidson.com.

Harley-Davidson to cut more jobs after 91% profit fall

Harley-Davidson Inc. reported on Thursday, a 91% plunge in second-quarter profit and announced another 1,000 job cuts as fewer motorcycle shipments and charges related to its financial services division took a huge chunk out of their results.

They are going to lay off workers and cut production to position themselves for a market recovery.

Harley earned $19.8 million, or 8 cents a share, compared with $222.8 million, or 95 cents a share, a year ago. The most recent quarter included $101.1 million in write-downs and charges.

Revenue fell 27% to $1.15 billion from $1.57 billion. Harley lowered its 2009 expectations for shipments, now planning to ship 212,000 to 228,000 motorcycles to dealers and distributors worldwide this year. The prior estimate was 264,000 to 273,000.

Part of their plan also includes cutting 700 more hourly jobs and 300 more non-production positions. Earlier this year, the company had announced workforce reductions of about 1,400 to 1,500 hourly positions and about 300 non-production jobs.

Two Harley's in the Great White North

European Harley Davidson specialists' W&W Cycles from Germany took on an unusual challenge recently. Their motorcycles of choice - a 1948 Panhead and custom 2006-model Shovelhead.

The challenge - they rode the bikes up the ice road to Tuktoyaktuk, in Canada’s Northwest Territories. The resulting photo essay is quite remarkable. -57 celsius at points with wind chill! -35 without.

Yes, folks that's cold - even for Canadian's!

Virtual Riding Television posts new HD video of beautiful BC

Our friend Jeff, Executive Producer, over at Virtual Riding Television has a new video posted. Somehow, he just keeps on finding some of the most beautiful roads in Canada then films them from the seat of his Harley Davidson V-Rod. The footage from this latest video was shot in the Fraser Canyon from Hope to The Last Spike point of interest located between Spences Bridge and Ashcroft British Columbia, Canada. Definitely a stunning stretch of road!

I must head out West to visit that part of Canada some day! The footage is high quality, as always. This video is shot without music because Jeff's testing out a new toy. He's gotten a new HD camera and mounted it to his KBC helmet; it's a Sony HXR-MC1 Digital HD Camera Video Recorder to be exact.

So, we can expect plenty more motorcycle video's showcasing some great Canadian roads and scenery from Virtual Riding TV.

Here's the video - but be sure to visit the VRide TV website to check out all the great stuff Jeff's got there.

CMDRA first race of the 2009 Eastern series (schedules included)

Screamin’ Eagle Harley® Destroyers Rev It Up

CAYUGA, Ontario (May 20, 2009) – Toronto Motorsports Park – The Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association’s Eastern Drag Bike Series, presented by Drag Specialties/Parts Canada, held its first round of the Eastern Series on this spring weekend.

Temperamental weather meant that only 2 qualifying rounds were held on Saturday. The remaining qualifiers and finals took place on Sunday, which made for a thrilling, action-packed day.

Under sunny skies, but with challenging strong winds, the fastest qualifier was Dave Bispo, racing for Rocky’s Harley-Davidson®. Dave Bispo and Chris Fox followed suit, supported by Rocky’s Harley-Davidson® and Fox Harley-Davidson®/Buell®, respectively.

While the qualifying rounds saw varying performances, the elimination rounds saw some very close wrangles, with only hundredths of a second setting the racers apart.

The final elimination round showcased two veteran talents: Dave Bispo and Pete Thomson. Pete Thomson raced the strip with an elapsed time of 9.393 seconds hitting a top speed of 137.96 mph. Dave Bispo had a hole shot win over Pete Thomson, reaching a speed of 133.67 mph and an elapsed time of 9.399 seconds with a recorded reaction time of 0.085 seconds.

On June 20, the Grand Bend Motorplex in Ontario will be opening its gates to spectators for the second of the Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association’s Eastern Drag Bike Series of the season.

New Video from Virtual Riding Television - (BC)

We've gotten word from Jeff Pennock, Executive Producer, Virtual Riding Television that he has posted a new video, from a ride filmed April 21st, 2009.

It's shot in HD from a camera mounted on the front of his 2003 Harley-Davidson, 100th Anniversary V-ROD VRSCA. The same motorcycle that he took with his cross-Canada (and back) trip in 2006. This video though is shot at Cypress Mountain, located in Cypress Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada. The quality of the video is great, the roads are twisty, and you can hear that Harley V-twin muscle. It looks like a fantastic ride!

There's still quite a bit of snow on the ground when this video is taken. Jeff even gets a little clip of a Snow Groomer passing by with a giant half pipe attachment cruising by.

At the end of the video Jeff gets a great shot overlooking Vancouver overlooking Vancouver, British Columbia with Stanley Park and the Lions Gate Bridge can also be seen.

Be sure to check out the latest installment below or go directly to Virtual Riding Television to check out all of Jeff's video's and read about his amazing story.

Harley Davidson says April is "check your helmet month"

Harley Davidson has some advice for you - "Check your helmet." April is a time of year that many motorcyclists get out on the road so it's a good time to check that the helmet you're using is providing the proper protection.

They offer a few tips. Here's the list, courtesy of Harley-Davidson:

1. Fit is Vital
A helmet must fit properly to be effective, and not all helmets fit the same. A well-fitting helmet should rest one inch above your eyebrows and shouldn’t roll forward or sideways on your head. To ensure a comfortable fit that doesn’t squeeze too tightly, wear a helmet for 15 minutes before making a final buying decision.

2. Helmets Don’t Last Forever
Over time, exposure to UV rays and the aging of adhesives and components will damage a helmet’s protective qualities. That’s why manufacturers and the SNELL Foundation recommend that helmets be replaced every three to five years, depending on use. Every new Harley-Davidson helmet comes with a “purchased on date” sticker that can be placed under the comfort liner for a quick reference.

3. Keep it Clean
A clean and well-cared-for helmet will protect better and longer. Use a mild soap to wash the outer shell and internal liners. Never use solvents or chemicals for cleaning as they can destroy protective coatings.

4. One Drop and it’s Done
A helmet is designed for only one impact. Even a small impact may fracture the outer shell or compress the impact-absorbing liner despite no visible damage. If a helmet has been dropped or suffers an impact, it should be immediately replaced.

5. Who to Ask?
Riders can learn more about helmet fit and care with the “Harley-Davidson Helmet” brochure available at Harley-Davidson dealers. Most Harley-Davidson dealers carry a wide range of helmet styles, including half-, three-quarter, full-face and modular designs.

Crazy Internet rumor drives up Harley Davidson stock

Harley-Davidson (nyse: HOG) stock took northward ride last Friday on very questionable rumors that Honda (nyse: HMC) was ready to purchase the motorcycle maker.

Shares of Harley-Davidson initially rose 6.3% but settled to a 4.2% gain, or $2.51, to $62.63 by noon trading.

Chances are quite slim that Honda would follow through with a purchase of Harley Davidson because of regulatory hurdles. It's reported that if Honda and Harley combined, the union would control 65% of the U.S. motorcycle market. The next leading competitor, would be Yamaha at a distant 16%.

The US Federal Trade Commission would almost certainly put the kibosh on that deal, seeing as its has squashed other, more mundane mergers in the past.

Analysts have been quoted as saying it doesn't seem a great fit - Harley the American icon of motorcycles and a large Japanese corporation. Brilliant deduction!

Honda-Davidson anybody?

Warren Buffet must like Harley's

Billionaire investor, Warren Buffet has agreed to buy $300 million dollars of HD debt in exchange for a 15% interest. Harley Davidon's largest shareholder, Davis Selected Advisers LP, also committed to buy $300 million of debt too.

The combined $600 million of senior unsecured notes will be used to fund Harley-Davidson Financial Services.

Harley gained $1.87, or 16 percent, to $13.73 at 4:02 p.m on the news in New York Stock Exchange composite trading after earlier reaching $14.55. This represents the biggest gain in the stock since November 2008.

The motorcycle maker has lost about two-thirds of its market value in the past year. Berkshire advanced $1,100, or 1.2 percent, to $90,500.

Berkshire is Warren Buffet's holding company that owns subsidiaries engaged in a number of diverse business activities. One share will set you back a cool $90,300 as of this writing.

New Sportster "Iron 883" from Harley Davidson

Harley Davidson has added a new Dark Custom model to the stable. The "Iron 883" will be hitting the showrooms floors for 2009 and it's the latest Harley-Davidson® Dark CustomTM motorcycle. It joins the ranks of a chosen few such as the Cross Bones, Nightster, Street Bob, Fat Bob, and Night Train.

The price tag to bring home the new Iron 883 will start at $9,569 Canadian MSRP.

The model comes with Harley's "denim" paint which is a matte black which some say uses a "satin clearcoat" so that over time, it'll wear in where the rider rubs it. So the bike will get a unique wear in pattern unique to the rider. Some will like that, others may not.

Some of the key facts and numbers:

- Engine: - Air-cooled, Evolution
- 55 ft. Lbs of torque @ 3,500 rpm
- Fuel economy 45/60 mpg (5.23/3.92 L/100 km)
- Dry weight 548 lbs - Wet weight 565 lbs.
- Solo seat

Here's some additional information from the Harley Davidson Press Release:

The Iron 883 bike keeps up the rebellious tradition with responsive handling, smooth clutch effort, and a durable, carbon reinforced drive belt, while pushing the styling of motorcycling minimalism to the edge.

Decked in black from fender to fender, the new Harley-Davidson® Iron 883 brings the beat of an 883 EvolutionTM engine, backed up by a combo of gritty, old-school garage features like front fork gaiters, drag style handlebar, and side-mount license plate holder.

Ric Marrero, Marketing Programs & Events Director for Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada commented: “This bike has so much potential for creative customization and comes with a very attractive price tag which will make it all the more fun to tailor to individual taste.”

The black powder-coated 883 cc EvolutionTM powertrain with black covers takes the Iron 883 bike deep into the heart of darkness. With Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) and performance tuning with a broad torque curve, the Iron 883 delivers plenty of power for the city scene. The pipes on the straight cut shorty dual exhaust flow the distinctive American V-Twin sound.

The black chopped rear fender with its combination stop/turn/tail lights shows more of the 150 mm rear tire and black, 13-spoke cast aluminum wheel, while the front tire also rides on a black wheel. The rest of the Iron 883 bike gets a darker-suited presence with black front forks and fender supports, fuel tank, oil tank cover, belt guard, drag style handlebar, and mid-mount foot controls.

A one-piece, solo classic seat with a height of 25.3 inches fits the lone rider, while a passenger seat and a backrest in complementing black finishes can be added as accessories.

As the latest of the Harley-Davidson® Dark Customs, the Iron 883 bike is stripped down and ripe for custom creativity. Dark Custom motorcycle riders have the youngest average age for Harley-Davidson buyers.

Harley Davidon - job cuts and reductions planned

The fourth quarter of 2008 wasn't overly kind to Harley Davidson. The economic slowdown has impacted them, as it has many others. Fourth quarter net income dropped 58 percent. Worldwide retail sales of Harley’s motorcycles fell 13.1 percent, including a 19.6 percent drop in the United States.

In response to the decrease in sales Harley plans to cut 1,100 jobs and decreaase production between 10 and 13 percent from 2008 levels.

Other measures Harley is taking are combining its two engine and transmission plants into one, consolidate paint and frame operations in Pennsylvania and close their parts and accessories distribution center. They will also discontinue their domestic transportation fleet.

For full details, check out the press release issued Jan 23/09:

Harley Davidson Press Release:

Milwaukee, Wis., January 23, 2009 – Harley-Davidson Inc. (NYSE:HOG) reported decreased revenue, net income and earnings per share for the fourth quarter of 2008 compared to the year-ago quarter. The Company said it plans lower motorcycle shipments in 2009 and made public its overall strategy to deal with the current economic environment.

“We have a strong core business anchored by a uniquely powerful brand, but we are certainly not immune to the current economic conditions,” said Jim Ziemer, Chief Executive Officer, Harley-Davidson Inc. “We have a clear strategy to not only deal with the economic conditions, but also strengthen our long-term operations and financial results. We are executing that strategy with confidence and conviction.”

Fourth-Quarter and Full-Year Results

Revenue for the quarter was $1.29 billion compared to $1.39 billion in the year-ago quarter, a 6.8 percent decrease. Net income for the quarter was $77.8 million compared to $186.1 million in the fourth quarter 2007, a decrease of 58.2 percent. Fourth quarter diluted earnings per share were $0.34, a 56.4 percent decrease compared to last year’s $0.78.

Revenue for the full year 2008 was $5.59 billion compared to $5.73 billion in 2007, a 2.3 percent decline. Full-year net income was $654.7 million, compared to $933.8 million in 2007. Diluted earnings per share were $2.79, a decrease of 25.4 percent compared to $3.74 in 2007. The full-year results are below the previously provided company guidance.

For the full year, wholesale shipments of Harley-Davidsonâ motorcycles were 303,479 units, an 8.2 percent decrease compared to 330,619 units in 2007.

2009 Shipment Plan, Gross Margins

In the first quarter of 2009, the Company plans to ship between 74,000 and 78,000 new Harley-Davidson motorcycles, a 3.0 percent to 8.5 percent increase versus the first quarter of 2008. However, for the full year 2009, the Company plans to ship between 264,000 and 273,000 new Harley-Davidson motorcycles, a 10 percent to 13 percent reduction from 2008.

“We reduced our production levels prudently in 2008, helping our dealers achieve lower inventory levels,” said Ziemer, “and we’re going to show similar discipline in 2009. That’s not only critical for the health of our business, but for our dealers’ businesses, as well.”

For the full year 2009, the Company expects gross margins to be between 30.5 percent and 31.5 percent, which compares to 34.5 percent for the full year 2008. The decrease is primarily due to an expected unfavorable shipment mix versus 2008, the allocation of fixed costs over fewer units, and expected unfavorable foreign currency exchange rates versus 2008. Given the volatility of the current economic environment, the Company also indicated it would not provide EPS guidance for 2009.

Strategy for the Current Economic Environment

The Company is executing a three-part strategy that includes a number of measures to deal with the impact of the recession and worldwide slowdown in consumer demand, with the intent of strengthening its operations and financial results going forward.

“Our strategy is focused on three critical areas: to invest in the Harley-Davidson brand, get our cost-structure right, and obtain funding for HDFS to help our dealers sell motorcycles and our retail customers to buy them,” said Ziemer

Investing in the Brand

The Company is reinforcing its support of the Harley-Davidson brand, accelerating its ongoing marketing efforts to reach out to emerging rider groups, including younger and diverse riders. In addition, the Company will continue to focus on product innovations targeted at specific growth opportunities with its strong core customer base and new riders.

In the U.S., the Company said its Sportster® motorcycle trade-up program is being well-received by dealers and consumers and is generating new floor traffic during the winter months. The program lets riders who already own a qualifying Sportster motorcycle, or who buy a new Sportster motorcycle, receive back the original Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price value when they trade up to a Harley-Davidson Big Twin or VRSC motorcycle at participating dealerships.

Outside the U.S., the Company will continue to support the product, dealer development and marketing activities which, during the last several years, have helped drive strong retail sales growth.

“Among other things, the Harley-Davidson brand stands for strength and resilience, and we’re managing the business in this economic climate in ways that we believe will build long-term value into the brand,” said Ziemer.

Adjusting the Cost Structure

As a result of motorcycle volume reduction and the Company’s commitment to improve its cost structure, Harley-Davidson plans to:

· Consolidate its two engine and transmission plants in the Milwaukee area into its facility in Menomonee Falls, Wis.
· Consolidate paint and frame operations at its assembly facility in York, Pa.
· Close its distribution facility in Franklin, Wis., consolidating Parts and Accessories and General Merchandise distribution through a third party.
· Discontinue its domestic transportation fleet operation.

The planned volume reduction and restructuring actions are expected to result in the elimination of about 1,100 jobs over 2009 and 2010, including about 800 hourly production positions and about 300 non-production, primarily salaried positions. About 70 percent of the workforce reduction is expected to occur in 2009.

“We obviously need to make adjustments to address the current volume declines,” said Ziemer. “But we are also determined to do that in a way that will make us more competitive for the long term. Our management group will engage with union leaders, through our partnering relationship, regarding these changes.”

On a combined basis, Harley-Davidson expects the volume reduction and changes to operations to result in one-time charges of approximately $110 million to $140 million over 2009 and 2010, and ongoing annual savings of approximately $60 million to $70 million upon completion of the restructuring actions.

Obtaining Additional Funding for HDFS

The Company said it is evaluating a range of options to provide the necessary liquidity for the wholesale and retail lending activities of Harley-Davidson Financial Services (HDFS).

“We’re evaluating options in order to obtain the necessary funding to support Harley-Davidson dealers and customers throughout the year,” said Tom Bergmann, Chief Financial Officer of Harley-Davidson, Inc. and interim President of HDFS.

Harley Davidson pricing in Canada

Deeley Harley Davidson Canada was kind enough to provide Canadian Motorcycle Rider with a listing of the suggested MSRP's for the 2009 line up of Harley's that we thought we'd share. The pricing was set as of December 1, 2008. Despite the current economic woes, sales were good in Canada and they're expected to continue for 2009.

If you look closely and compare some of these Canadian prices vs. the prices you'll pay for an equivalent Harley Davidson in the US, we're actually paying a little less for some in Canada at the moment!

So, now might be a good time to head on down to the local Harley shop if you're in the market.

The first dates start in BC in early April and there are rides scheduled all the way out to October of 2009.

There's too many dates and locations to list so here is the link.

Design chief at MV Agusta to retire

Famed MV Augusta designer Massimo Tamburini will be retiring from his position of design chief at MV Agusta by the end of 2008. It's not clear who will take up the newly vacant job but it's hinted that the design team he leaves behind will continue his legacy and vision. Maybe they'll have a boss parachuted in from Harley Davidson now that they're a wholly owned subsidiary. Only time will tell.

Here's an MV Agusta press release for full details:

VARESE, ITALY, Dec. 3, 2008 - MV Agusta today announced that Design Chief Massimo Tamburini will retire from the company, effective Dec. 31, 2008. Tamburini has been with Cagiva since early 1985 and has headed up MV Agusta’s engineering and design center, Centro Ricerche Cagiva, in San Marino for over 13 years, where he and the staff designed what are widely regarded as world-class, premium, high-performance sport motorcycles, including the legendary F4.

“I have dedicated a significant part of my career in motorcycle design to Cagiva and MV Agusta and am immensely proud of the beautiful and thrilling motorcycles we have created,” said Tamburini. “While my decision to retire was extremely difficult to make, I am confident the highly-talented designers and engineers in San Marino will continue the tradition of excellence that is the hallmark of MV Agusta. I have been privileged to realize so many dreams during my years with Cagiva and MV Agusta and look forward to seeing more great things yet to come from the company,” Tamburini said.

Tamburini plans to pursue design interests outside the motorcycle field and to spend more time on his other outside interests.

“Massimo Tamburini is one of the legends of the motorcycle industry and leaves a great legacy at MV Agusta,” said Claudio Castiglioni, MV Agusta Chairman and Director of Motorcycle Research and Development. “The capabilities he built at MV Agusta’s design center are outstanding and his legacy and vision will now be carried forward by the team he assembled and mentored over many years. While we will miss his presence, we respect his decision to retire and wish him all the best for the future,” Castiglioni said.

MV Agusta is a wholly-owned subsidiary of U.S.-based Harley-Davidson, Inc. (NYSE:HOG). MV Agusta produces premium, high-performance sport motorcycles sold under the MV Agusta® brand and lightweight sport motorcycles sold under the Cagiva® brand.

It's official - Harley to buy MV Agusta

We brought you some rumors of this deal a while back, then there was some talk that it wasn't happening. Turns out the rumors were true because Harley Davidson announced today (Friday) that it had agreed to buy the Italian motorcycling company MV Agusta for some 70 million euros.

Harley hopes that the acquisition would allow it to expand in Europe, where Harley-Davidson sales last year climbed 15%.

MV Agusta, which also produces motorbikes under the Cagiva marque, is owned by the Castiglioni family and Claudio Castiglioni will remain as company chairman.

"We take enormous pride in MV Agusta and Cagiva motorcycles," said Castiglioni. "Our riders seek an uncompromising experience in premium performance motorcycles. And with Harley-Davidson's deep understanding of the emotional as well as the business side of motorcycling, I have great confidence that our motorcycles will excite customers for generations to come."

Harley Davidson will pay Castiglioni an additional contingent bonus if certain financial targets are met by 2016. The deal is expected to be finalized in the next few weeks.

Plans are to continue to operate MV Agusta Group from its headquarters in Varese, northern Italy, and that head designer Massimo Tamburini would also stay on.

This will add two lines of motorcycles: MV Agusta with their exotic and high performance F4-R and the 1078 Brutale RR, and Cagiva bringing a line of lightweight street bikes.

MV Agusta denies Harley-Davidson buyout in works

The President of MV Agusta, Claudio Castiglioni, has said there is no truth in rumours that his firm is being bought out by Harley-Davidson.

Castiglioni told MCN that "there are no negotiations in progress with Harley-Davidson" following reports in Italian newspaper Il Messaggero that a buyout was imminent.

Rumors about potential financial partners, or new owners have been rampant lately and MV Agusta have been said to be in talks with Indian car makers Tata and Mahindra. Nothing has been confirmed so far though.

The largest stake in the firm is owned by investment firm GEVI SpA, while Castiglioni retains around 20 percent of the firm. Last year the firm sold the Husqvarna subsidiary to BMW, but MV Agusta is now believed to be actively looking for a major new investor to ensure its security in the future.

Harley-Davidson in advanced talks to purchase MV Agusta

The daily Messaggero (an Italian newspaper) has reported, without citing any sources, that U.S. motorbike manufacturer Harley-Davidson is in advanced talks to buy Italy's MV Agusta.

Details according to Messaggero:

The deal would see Harley-Davidson (nyse: HOG - news - people ) buy out most of the debt of MV Agusta, currently at around 200 million euros -- 130 million euros held by banks and 70 million euros held by suppliers.

The operation would envisage a write off of part of the debt.

Harley-Davidson wants to write off about 35 percent of the debt but the banks and suppliers want that amount reduced to at least 30 percent.

Harley-Davidson could buy 80-85 percent of MV Agusta's capital, leaving businessman Claudio Castiglioni with 15-20 percent.

Castiglioni currently owns 29.6 percent of MV Agusta while 65.4 percent is owned by finance company Gevi.

Harley Davidson Billboards Upset Quebec Community

Quebec municipal leaders are condemning a Harley-Davidson ad campaign that suggests cruising to a Mohawk community to buy illegal cigarettes and taking a road trip to Toronto to visit some "square heads." Hoping to showcase the rebellious lifestyle of riding a Harley on the open road, the motorcycle manufacturer recently posted 85 black billboards beside highways across the province of Quebec.

Bold-lettered messages in 40 of those signs were designed to grab the attention of locals . With great success; only it's not the kind of attention Harley was likely looking for.

One Montreal-area mayor called the ads shocking and wants the Harley-Davidson billboard erected in his town to come down. "It works to insult people," said Claude Carignan, mayor of St-Eustache, where town property is being used to highlight Kanesatake's cheap cigarettes, considered illegal by the province.

The billboards use highway numbers to create French messages like "640 reasons to go buy cigarettes in Kanesatake." Others loosely translate as "40 reasons to go be bored to death in Ottawa" and "20 reasons to go visit square heads in Toronto."

Square heads - or tete carres - is a derogatory term used by Quebec francophones to refer to uptight anglophones. "I don't use that expression myself, but that's what we hear in the street," said Dominic Bourdages, a marketer for OSL Marketing, the Montreal firm that conceived the campaign. He said OSL Marketing also proposed a Canada-wide campaign to Harley-Davidson with customized messages for each region.

One billboard on the table would have suggested Torontonians visit some "frogs" in Montreal. "We had this line for sure, yes," Bourdages said. But the Wisconsin-based motorcycle company decided to only launch the Quebec campaign.

Kanesatake Grand Chief Steven Bonspille drove past the cigarette billboard for the first time on Wednesday. "I certainly don't agree with what they're doing," said Bonspille, whose Mohawk territory is about 20 kilometres west of St-Eustache. "I'm not against the cigarette trade at all here, however, I think Harley-Davidson could have picked a more positive, healthier message to the public than cigarettes."

Bonspille said Kanesatake is a beautiful region with much more to offer visitors than discount cigarettes. Still, he said some local cigarette retailers find the campaign is a boon for business

Bourdages said the ideas are based on Harley-Davidson's "anti-conformist" image and the basic biker principle of heading out on the highway. "If you talk to any motorcycle lover they would tell you that they love to ride and wherever they go it doesn't really matter," he said. "That's what we wanted to say in this campaign."

Harley Davidson Introduces Multi-Color LED Lighting System

Harley Davidson is introducing a new combination speedometer/tachometer accessory that will enable some 600 color-tone options.

hd_ledgauge
600 Color Variation Gauge
The new speedo/tach combination gauge features a multi-color LED lighting system. You can use the trip reset button to adjust the backlighting of the gauge to blend four LED color through a range of more than 600 color-tone possibilities to match the color of your bike or whatever color you want that day.

It combines an analog sweeping speedometer on the top portion and an analog sweeper dial on the bottom for the tach so you can monitor both speed and RPM in one convenient gauge; no need to add an additional handlebar mounted tach. The gauge also features an LCD odometer/tripmeter. It'll mount in the stock dash opening and is a direct plug-in installation.

Sizes are available to replace the original-equipment five-inch and four-inch speedometers on the Harley-Davidson Touring, Sportster, Softail, and Dyna models.

It doesn't appear to be on Harley-Davidson's Canadian website but reports indicate that it'll retail for US$499.95 so expect a price reasonably close to that.
